Strengthening Aquaculture in Gadchiroli
Buyer-Seller Meet and Technical Workshop at STRC, Gondwana University, Gadchiroli

In a major step toward strengthening the aquaculture sector in Gadchiroli district, STRC, Gondwana University, hosted a large-scale Buyer-Seller Meet and Technical Workshop. The event was part of the project ‘Development of Organized Fish Seed Production, Culture, and Marketing to Ensure Sustainable Livelihood Opportunity in Aquaculture in Gadchiroli District’ jointly implemented by STRC and the College of Fishery Science, MAFSU, Nagpur.
The workshop witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 180 participants, including fish farmers, members of fish cooperative societies, district fishery department, large-scale buyers from Nagpur and Chandrapur, senior faculty members, heads of the respective institutions and key officials from MAFSU, Nagpur.
Presiding over the event, Dr. Niteen Patil, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of MAFSU, Nagpur, highlighted the critical role of organized fish seed production and efficient marketing strategies in ensuring long-term sustainability and economic growth in the aquaculture sector.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in fostering a structured, market-driven approach to fish farming, enhancing livelihood opportunities, and promoting sustainable fisheries management in the region.
Empowering Small-Scale Fish Farmers
The primary objective of the workshop was to provide a structured platform for small-scale fish farmers to engage in direct discussions with large-scale buyers, fostering sustainable business linkages. Through expert-led technical sessions, participants gained valuable insights into:
- Digital marketing of fish produce for enhanced market reach.
- Modern aquaculture practices for improved productivity and sustainability.
- Value-added fish products to increase profitability.
- Current government schemes in the fishery sector to access financial and technical support.
The interactive nature of the workshop allowed fish farmers to engage directly with industry experts and buyers, facilitating networking opportunities and potential collaborations.

The event marks a crucial step towards integrating technology, knowledge, and market access in the aquaculture value chain. By addressing challenges related to production, processing, and marketing, the initiative aims to uplift fish farmers in Gadchiroli and ensure economic viability in the long run.
