About the Workshop

Science & Technology Resource Centre (STRC), Gondwana University, Gadchiroli is organizing the National Workshop on Indigenous Medicinal Knowledge System 2025 (IMK-2025). IMK-2025 aims to bridge the gap between indigenous medicinal knowledge and modern scientific approaches ensuring that traditional healers, tribal communities, researchers and modern healthcare practitioners collaborate to preserve and utilize this valuable heritage to promote sustainable development, livelihood generation and conservation of natural resources. By integrating ethnobotanical studies, field research, and scientific validation, STRC works towards enhancing the credibility and acceptance of indigenous medicinal practices while ensuring sustainable utilization and commercialization of medicinal plants resource .

Themes of the Workshop

The event is planned to centre around the following major themes:

⸙ Session I – Indigenous Medicinal Knowledge and Ethnobotany: Role of Traditional Healers (Scientific Documentation, Ethanobotanical Mapping, Knowledge Transfer)

⸙ Session II – Integration of Traditional Medicine with Modern Healthcare System: Scientific Validation and Bio-prospecting (Pharmacological Studies, Integration Modalities, Role of Ayurveda / Siddha in validation)

⸙ Session III – Conservation, Sustainable Utilization and Commercialization of Medicinal Plant Resources (Community Led Conservation Strategies, Commercialization Potential, Research – Industry Interface)

⸙ Session IV – Intellectual Property Rights and Bio-piracy (Legal Framework for Protection , Role of Institutions, Case Studies & Lesson Learned)

⸙ Session V – Policy, Governance and Institutional Support (Role of AYUSH, National / State Biodiversity Board, Forest Rights Act and its Relevance to Conservation in CFR Areas)

Stakeholder Engagement

Eminent experts in various fields of Indigenous Medicinal Knowledge and Ethnobotany, reputed research institutes and individuals specializing in conservation and sustainable utilization of medicinal plant resource along with experts in IPR, bio-piracy, govt. institutions and policy makers have been invited from multiple states to deliver their lectures during technical sessions under major themes of the workshop.
